The World Series of Poker will expand itself a little more in 2013, as it will now be making its presence in the Southern hemisphere.  A few weeks before the WSOP 2012 began, it was announced that the WSOP Asia-Pacific league would be created and that it will have its debut in Melbourne, Australia.  This was agreed after the representatives of the WSOP, where able to come to an agreement with the Crown Melbourne.
The new poker league events, will take place between the 4th and 15th of April 2013.  In these events, five WSOP bracelets will be offered and the best poker players will take one of them home.  The Crown Melbourne is not really new to important poker events, as they have already hosted the Aussie Millions events, which have been truly fantastic.
Ty Stewart, who is part of the WSOP representatives said, that they want to establish a grand slam of poker across the world and that they expect to elevate the expectancy of players as they are offering some great opportunities.  The World Series of Poker is still growing in Las Vegas and the European league is also a great success after five years of operation and now the WSOP representatives expect the same for the new Asia-Pacific league.  Stewart also said that after watching the tremendous success of the Aussie Millions events in Australia, they could have not chosen better partners than the Asia-Pacific region.
The exact calendar of all those WSOP events for next year has not been released yet, but many are already very excited.  Players like Joe Hachem who is a very important poker figure in the Crown Melbourne Casino, said that he is really excited about being able to win another WSOP bracelet, but this time, near his hometown.  He said that it is exciting to know that the WSOP will take place on Australian territory and that this will surely increase the popularity of poker in this part of the world, as it has done in many other countries already.  Hachem also said that he cannot wait for this event to arrive and to be able to help host this event.

• Distribution of the cards and betting:

In case there’s no provision of house dealer (who shuffles the 52-card deck) at the online casino, a player has to be the dealer for the time. As the game goes into the next level, the button moves clockwise to the next player. Before any of the cards are dealt, an amount is put into the pot (so as to play on every hand), which is then followed by Small/First Blind (putting up half the minimum bet) by the player on the immediate left of the dealer, and Big/Second Blind (putting up full the minimum bet) by the player sitting two seats left of the dealer. The dealing includes two cards facing down, usually called ‘Hole Cards’.

• The Flop:

After the first round of betting is over, the dealer shows up three cards at the virtual table and is referred to as ‘Flop’. By the time the flop is done, there’s no scope of forced bets anymore, and the player to the left of the dealer is the one who acts at the first place to check around for their call, raising bets or folds.

• The Turn:

Following the Flop, the dealer once again discards the top card of the deck and plays a face up card on the online poker table. This card is the fourth card, and hence ‘Turn’ and ‘Fourth Street’ is all the same thing. Following the face up, the betting round begins for the third time and that too in the same fashion as in the previous stages.

• The River:

In this rule (read move), the dealer does the same thing as he did during the Turn. The only difference is that it’s the fifth community card that is showed up this time and hence the ‘River’ is often called as the ‘Fifth Street’ too. After the move has been done by the dealer, the betting round continues for another time in the same loop of turn traverse.

•  The Winning Bet:

All a player can do during the final round of betting (in the same loop) is to form a good five-card poker hand, with the seven available cards (5 community, and 2 hole cards). At the end of the betting round, all the players are supposed to unveil their hands. Usually the initial bettor or the last raiser of bet value does the move at the first place. The winning bet goes to the one who unveils the best hand in the five-card poker.

The latest poker news show a group of Italian men that managed to steal at least $27,000 from a casino in Cannes. The three Italians had some inside help from one of the casino dealers. They first drew attention on themselves back in August, when they made another trip to the French Riviera. Back then, they managed to walk off with over $60,000 in illicit winnings, with nobody inside the casino being the wiser to their intricate scam. However, authorities started to place them under surveillance.

Recently, on the group’s second trip to Cannes, the four men were taken into custody after they pocketed another $27,000. Their pictures have been posted up in casinos across Europe in an effort to see if they worked in any other locations.

This isn’t the first story of these activities, and it’s not even the first one to break out this year: just a couple of weeks ago, two poker pros were caught after managing to steal more than $70,000 after playing and cheating on a game of craps through “sliding” the dice.

At the end of the day, we don’t know whether to be happy that these guys keep getting caught, or wonder how many more are out there doing their business undisturbed.

The company specializes in “reviving” dying brands

Not earlier than yesterday we were hoping that we’ve heard the last of the Full Tilt Poker scandal. Well, we were wrong. The internet is filled with pokernews to the most recent announcement from the AGCC that the company’s license is being permanently revoked – former players are understandably upset, and many online publications have dragged the Full Tilt company name through layers of dirt.

Well, today comes with yet another shocker, and the closeness between the two dates leads me to believe that this was Full Tilt’s backup plan, making their big announcement right after the AGCC’s, in order to do some damage control.

Long story short, Full Tilt Poker have signed an acquisition agreement with Groupe Bernard Tapie. So, rumors were right all along, and it was, indeed, all about finishing touches with a French group of investors. The announcement released today states that an exclusive agreement between the two companies has been signed, and Full Tilt is now fully owned by Groupe Bernard Tapie.

This agreement includes one part that will make poker players extremely happy: it includes the repayment of the owed amounts world-wide. What this means, basically, is that people will finally get their money back, if the deal is to go according to the contract (and frankly, Full Tilt hasn’t been the one to respect the contract to the letter so far).

In addition to this contract being signed by both parties, negotiations will now begin with the US Department of Justice. These discussions will try to get the company out of the hole it’s dug for itself.

But, all in all, Full Tilt now seems to be in good hands. Groupe Bernard Tapie is a company with over 30 years of experience in saving financially distressed businesses. They have a portfolio of over 40 companies that they have acquired and managed until a huge profit had been achieved. The most well known company in this list is the sporting equipment giant Adidas.

It’s not yet known how this will affect the company’s return to good standing, or if the Alderney Gambling Control Commission will now reinstate their license. However, it is a step in the right direction. Had it been made months earlier, the company’s odds would have been much higher, but now the whole announcement has been met with a lot of skepticism.

Poker Player Tobey Maguire in trouble

The latest poker news is that Tobey Maguire of the Spiderman movies fame has been sued over the winnings of high stake poker matches. It appears that Tobey Maguire who reportedly generated an income of $25 million for each Spiderman film also made a great deal of money by playing poker and winning, due to his pokerfaced performance at the tables. It is alleged that convicted fraudster Bradley Ruderman who was the actor’s usual opponent at poker games has settled his debts to Maguire with the help of stolen money. Lawyers representing investors in Ruderman’s investment scheme are pursuing many high profile poker players including Tobey Maguire to return an amount totaling to more than four million dollars which they won from the fraudster.

The lawsuit was filed in March this year, but was discovered by a reporter of the tabloid, Star only at the end of June. These were exclusive Texas Hold’em events, by invitation only, attended by some of the wealthiest celebrities, businessmen, attorneys and entrepreneurs. The games were organized by a socialite Molly Bloom, who got a cut from their bankrolls. According to investigators, she made arrangements for card tables, food and drink as well as professional dealers for the events. The games usually took place in the home of film producer Nick Cassavetes but were sometimes held at five star hotel suits like the Viper Room, Beverly Hills Hotel and Four Seasons.

Regular participants included such prominent celebrities like Ben Affleck, Leonardo Dicaprio and Matt Damon along with Hollywood financier Alec Gores. The players were expected to spend a minimum of $100,000 at the twice-a-week events, buy-ins for which ranged anything from $40,000 to $200,000. 22 players participating in these exclusive high stake poker games have been sued by Howard Ehrenberg, a bankruptcy trustee who represents the defrauded investors of Ruderman’s (defunct) hedge fund.

According to the lawsuit against Maguire, he won $ 311,200 from Ruderman in the game.
